Sjoberg Nordic Plus Cupboard Review

I bought this for the small Sjoberg workbench in my garage workshop when I started using the shop more. It adds 4 small storage drawers, useful for keeping frequently used items at hand, and an enclosed cupboard for somewhat larger tools. While a shop made cupboard would likely be more robust, I prefer spending my time making things for the house rather than making things for the shop. The cupboard went together quickly and fit exactly in the space of the old stringers (which are discarded). Be aware that the kit uses the shelf from the original workbench as the back panel. Mine had long since given up the ghost, so I had to make a new panel for the back. The panel pieces are kind of lightweight but the drawer boxes are nicely milled with box joints at the corners. I do worry about the longevity of the plastic clips that hold the box corners together but a little glue will hold the boxes together if the need arises. The drawers don't operate very smoothly out of the box, but a little Johnson's paste wax on the rails and runners resolves that issue completely.

Product Description

The Cascade is a popular internal choice in the ALPS Mountaineering line. Differing from the other internals offered, the Cascade has a large zippered pocket on each side of the pack, making it convenient to get to certain items quickly, while you're out on the trail. In addition to the large outside pockets, the Cascade has lower side bottle pockets, a large front pocket, and #10 zippers on the lower door offering easy access to your sleeping bag or other gear below the internal horizontal divider. Our Cascade has our Comfort Glide Suspension System. This adjustment system will allow you to adjust to that perfect point. The SoftEdge shoulder straps have 2 layers of foam to give you maximum comfort and adjust. The modular waist belts have 3 layers of foam (a stiff outer layer, a firm middle layer, and a soft inner layer) for maximum load carrying capabilities combined with the ultimate in comfort. The Air Mesh on the inside of the belt stretches with the foam so there are no wrinkles to rub against your body. With ALPS Mountaineering internals, you're not going to have to purchase the pack and all kinds of accessories. The rain cover is INCLUDED and is now part of your pack conveniently stored in a pocket at the bottom of your pack. Don t worry about buying a fanny pack for those quick hikes away from camp either because the top pocket converts to a fanny pack. When you're ready for your trip and your pack is full, but you still have a few things to take, don't worry! The top of the Cascade extends with a spindrift collar, so you can "over pack." The top pocket adjusts up and down to keep it in the correct position and we've included an "Over the Top" compression strap to stabilize your extra gear. Once you try the Cascade, you won t settle for anything less.

ALPS Mountaineering Cascade 5200 Nylon Ripstop Top Internal Frame Pack, Olive Review

Just got back from a nice weekend out in the Cohutta in N. GA w/ this bag. For the price I doubt you'll find a cushier bag, it has all the features except maybe a whistle built into the sternum strap buckle.

The bag is very large, and the pockets let you keep all of your gear separated out so you can get to what you need when you need it. The bag is a bit wide with the side pockets full, but very manageable. The suspension adjustments may not be great if you are over 6'1", so see if you can try one on at REI or another outfitter before buying if you are a tall one.

I carried about 45lbs (I overpacked some food, water, and rigging items etc since we had some kids and first timers with us). For this weight the bag was very well padded, and comfortable.

The only nit I have is that the hip belt had to be pulled on now and then to keep it tight so the weight sat where I wanted it. It carried very well and the mesh pads on the back were very breathable and my back wasn't hot under the bag.

ALPS has the two bungies on the front to secure trekking poles, etc and a single loop at the bottom. I found that to secure two poles well, I had to cross my lower load control straps to cover the poles, but once done they were not moving at all.

Also, I was able to put EVERYTHING inside my bag. This was a first and I loved it. Even my therma-rest was inside the bag.

Best of luck, for the money you get a great piece of gear.
