To start off, I'm not a plumber by trade, so this tool has only been used on a few projects. But it is a Ridgid tool, so there's no reason why this won't work in day-to-day use. Indeed, I can see how the lighter composite construction would make this a much better choice.

The handles are not consider long by any means, so yeah, you do need a little muscle behind it. Not that long handles are always good either because of clearance issues. It's a tradeoff.

So for such little use, why didn't I just buy one of those universal sets for less than the price of just one tool, which can only do 1" crimps? Quality. I wanted a tool that works out of the box and works for every crimp, every time. No jaw changes, no tension calibration, no wondering if I'm going to receive a poorly casted import tool that couldn't even make one crimp because it cracked under pressure. When your projects involved hours of digging, crawling under a house, or contorting into a ditch behind a brick wall, the last thing you want to fail is a simple pex crimp.

I saved thousands going DIY versus hiring someone else to do the work. Spending a little more for good professional tools that deliver professional results is money well spent.
