after perusing the various bowie knifes available , I chose the bear and son bowie . while there were plenty of pics for this bowie , there was nothing to compare it with size wise and the the lack of detail in the description left me a little iffy . the blade is 7 . 5 inches long , 1 3/8 wide and 3/16 thick , the handle is approx 4 1/8 long and the total length is approx 11 3/4 . the stag handles are pretty well matched up , and it appears that some type of epoxy was used to fill the gaps between steel and stag . this is a really nice knife for the price . it would be well suited for a camp and or hunting knife , while i wont be using this as a digging , prying or batoning tool ( ive never understood why people have a need to baton wood , in my 40 years it has been unneccesary) that does not mean you couldnt use it as such. . it is similar to a k-bar with the handles being the main difference in terms of size and style. the leather sheath is also very nice . while there is no leg tie included there is plenty of room at the end of the sheath to add your own . but with the dangler style belt loop and the size of the knife , it sits well from the belt and does not flop around enough for me to add a tie down . all in all this is a great american made knife for the money .
