Red Lion RL-SC50T 1/2-HP 4300-GPH Sump Pump with Tethered Float Switch, Cast Iron Review

While as of now I can't attest to the durability nor longevity of this pump, I have to share why they are the best deal, by far:

I did extensive research for MONTHS on sump pumps. DOZENS of pumps from many manufacturers. After weeding out the ones with low warranties (less than 3yrs), the ones I was left with I contacted the manufacturers to ask HOW the warranties work (something few think to do). You have to remember that these things are HEAVY and would cost a fortune to ship back to the manufacturers! Wayne*, Superior, Zoeller, Liberty, Titan, etc., ALL of them, require that you have to PAY to ship a defective unit back to them--EXCEPT Red Lion! All they require you to do is take off the labels on the unit and MAIL those in! That's it. You absolutely CANNOT beat that. Further, they are also about the least expensive! (Superior had some of equal specs a little cheaper, but due to the warranty service it's not worth it).

3 year warranty, totally maintenance free, and, the best warranty service possible. Add to that; (while Superior also had incredible email support), Red Lion also had perfect email support answering all of my emails the same day. That says a lot for a company!

So far mine is working fine. I have it in a sump in the backyard for flooding since our foundation is sinking. The slightest "barely heavy" rain would cause water to get in my house. I had a Wayne CDU980* in it along with a cheap brand for backup. The cheap brand broke, so that's why I got this Red Lion. It worked fine in all tests, and when I unplug the Wayne during rain the Red Lion works fine.

*What people need to know about this Wayne so-called "lifetime warranty" on the CDU980 is that it doesn't even cover the parts! Yep, you are REQUIRED, you MUST, change the switch every two years regardless (15-20 bucks), and the warranty also does not cover the float! Add to that, when it breaks you have to of course shell out big $$$ to ship it back to them!

FYI, Red Lion is a division of Franklin Electric, from what I understand it's sort of their more heavy-duty high-performance line, they've been around for a long time.

UPDATE 8-29-2012: I have to update this after Hurricane Isaac passed through here: I wanted to make sure both pumps were working fine before it hit. I noticed the CDU980, as usual, had its bottom grill filled with debris (even though I have the rainwater "filtered" going into the sump through a large screen, then a smaller screen). Tiny sticks mostly, stuck in the grill. When that happens, it won't work. (Who in their right mind would make a pump like that??) The RL-SC50T, due to its type of water intake, was spotless! (Due to its high RPM it apparently "shreds" any debris that passes through those "fingers" at the bottom). It had been in the sump for a few months and through many downpours, and still totally clean. Now I know this is truly a maintenance free product and I'll never have to remove it again. During the hurricane; if it would not have been for this Red Lion RL-SC50T my house would have been flooded. The Wayne CDU980 at times would not shut off, and much worse wouldn't even come on at times, and I had recently replaced the switch on it! At one point I was watching the water in the sump totally cover the CDU980, the float moving all the way up the rod, and nothing happened, it wouldn't come on! But when the rising level triggered the tethered float on the RL-SC50T, every time, it worked just fine. The CDU980 could have cost me thousands of $, but the RL-SC50T SAVED ME thousands of $! Now I'll be getting at least one more of the RL pumps, probably two.
