This works quite well. I could not see the laser light in summer sunshine and had to buy the laser detector also. With the detector it worked very well. Leveling the unit is a very sensitive task and it is not rock solid but does work. It helps to let it sit on the tripod for a while so it can acclimate to the temperature of the day. I laid out forms for 23'x7' footings for a cage at a wildlife rehab center with it. That did not need to be perfectly level but needed to be flat. I would not hesitate to do a slab with it.
