This is a completely mechanical combination lock with no electronics or battery. I have used a single-sided version on a door to my garage for over 5 years. It is exposed to all weather and has worked absolutely flawlessly. There are no plastic parts, it is all metal. I purchased the double-sided version for a windowed back door. The double-sided version is identical to the single-sided versions except that it has two independent locking faces. Each can be set to a different combination, which is handy if you want a shorter code to allow quick exiting (especially in case of emergency) and perhaps a longer code for entry. My lock of over 5 years shows no wear. The key numbers are at the side of the buttons and will not be rubbed off. With no key (a keyed version is available) the lock is impossible to bump.

Installation is fairly straight forward for a handyman though it still took about 1 1/2 hours. I had to chisel out a rectangular recess for the bolt's face plate, drill an extra small hole through the door, set the combinations and install the two faces with both locks in consistent positions (either both locked or both open). Be careful when drilling the extra hole. I recommend installing the bolt first, then temporarily place the inside lock on the door and use that to guide the correct location of the extra hole; which is much more accurate than using the supplied paper template. Of course, before trying to install it on the door, put it together while uninstalled and check the operation so you understand how the parts must go together and indeed works when assembled. If it is assembled incorrectly, it will not work.
