Let me start by telling you what I'm looking for in a cord reel. I want a reel that will reel up the cord. I bought this and installed it in my new workshop, 14 foot ceiling for a lift. After mounting it I adjusted the ball stop down a few feet so I could reach it from the floor. Then I got down on the floor for a test, pulled out a few feet and then tried to get it to retract, after playing for a couple minutes I could not get it to retract up out of the way. I had looked at several so I went to the house logged on to Amazon and verified, yes this had 4 ratings, all were five star ratings. I,m not happy that I just put holes in my new metal ceiling mounting this and figured if it had 4 five star ratings without a mention of trouble retracting i must have gotten a bad one....right? So I ordered a second one, this way I could leave the mounting bracket on the ceiling and just swap the cord reels, then I could return the bad one.
The second reel was a little better than the first but did not retract the cord without fiddling with it. Again let me reiterate, I'm looking for a reel that retracts the cord. If I had paid $30 or $40 for it I probably would have used it somewhere else but for $150 I expect it to work properly for a few years. I know Reelcraft is known for quality reels but this ain't it. They should drop this from their line. I suppose if you mounted it on a wall where you can reach it and fiddle with it to get the cord back in it, it might be alright but I wouldn't want to pay this much for a reel I have to fiddle with, that kinda defeats the purpose of having the reel. DO NOT buy this to mount overhead where you can't reach the reel!
Having said that I have returned them both to Amazon, Amazon gets 5 stars for making this simple, that's why I shop here.
I am buying one of the commercial quality reels by reelcraft, costs twice as much but I won't be upset about making holes in my new metal ceiling for junk.....I hope. I'll review that Reel in a couple of weeks.
