Safety Technology International STI-34200 Wireless Mailbox Alert Transmitter with 4-Channel Receiver Review
The device seems well made. The receiver is about the size of a deck of playing cards and the transmitter is a bit smaller. The transmitter can sense that it has been tipped from vertical to horizontal or it can use either the internal magnetic sensor or an external wired magnetic sensor, similar to a home burglar alarm system. The transmitter is battery powered, of course, but the receiver needs AC power. You have to register the transmitter to the receiver, a quick 30-second process. The registration is remembered even if you unplug the receiver or have to replace the transmitter battery. You do have to cut a wire inside the transmitter to use a magnetic sensor, but the instructions are clear and a nail clipper would work fine. The receiver can be registered with up to three other sensors if you want to monitor more than just your mailbox (hence the "4-Channel" designation), but you would have to buy those transmitters separately. The receiver beeps when the mailbox is opened and it turns the receiver indicator light from green to red until the receiver is reset by pressing a button, so if you don't hear the beep you can still tell that the mailbox has been opened. For our installation, the mailbox is about 50 feet from the house and we placed the receiver near the middle of the house. It works fine. We have only had it a few days, so I can't yet comment on transmitter battery life. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Safety Technology International STI-34200 Wireless Mailbox Alert Transmitter with 4-Channel Receiver" are high quality item.
